National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged the Ministry of EAC, ASALs and Regional Integration to collaborate with the Bureau of EAC Speakers in a bid to resolve bottlenecks that are hindering the full attainment of regional integration.
Speaking during a courtesy call by EAC Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe, the Speaker, who is also the President of the Bureau of EAC Speakers, acknowledged that the collaboration would spur the legislative agenda.
The unity, he said, is key to ironing out some of the thorny issues.
He expressed his commitment to the EAC push and the integration agenda.
The meeting focused on strengthening legislative collaboration among EAC partner states, with Speaker Wetang’ula emphasizing the need for deeper regional unity, policy alignment and economic cooperation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger ties among national parliaments within the bloc.
“In my capacity as President of the Bureau of EAC Speakers, I remain committed to fostering regional unity, legislative harmony, and economic growth for a more prosperous East Africa,” Wetang’ula said.
He further called on CS Moe to support efforts aimed at elevating the Bureau of EAC Speakers into a more influential regional body, noting that enhanced legislative coordination is key to accelerating regional integration.
The Speaker highlighted the importance of removing trade barriers, improving infrastructure and implementing policies that ease movement across member states.
The discussion also addressed challenges facing the EAC, including trade restrictions, harmonization of laws, and the need for stronger institutional frameworks to support regional governance.
Wetang’ula reiterated Kenya’s unwavering commitment to the success of the EAC and called on partner states to work together to advance economic and social transformation.
The meeting marked another step in positioning the Bureau of EAC Speakers as a key driver of regional policymaking and integration.
