Brutal homicide in Igembe South: Detectives hunt for husband accused of wife’s murder

Crime Scene

A gruesome murder has left the quiet community of Igembe South in Meru County reeling, as detectives intensify their search for a man accused of brutally murdering his wife following a domestic dispute.

The suspect, identified as Samuel Miriti, allegedly hacked the 45-year-old woman to death with a panga, leaving her lifeless body discarded under a culvert along the Therone-Kiuma murram road.

The incident, reported on Sunday by Assistant Chief Ikuua of Igembe South, has sparked outrage amongst locals who discovered the horrific scene on Monday morning.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the couple were last seen leaving Therone market on Sunday evening, engaged in a heated argument as they headed home. Witnesses reported that the disagreement appeared intense, but no one anticipated the tragic outcome that would follow.

Later that evening, authorities believe Miriti murdered his wife, inflicting fatal cuts to her neck with a panga, a common agricultural tool. After committing the act, Miriti allegedly fled and is currently evading authorities as detectives comb the region for his whereabouts.

The victim’s body, discovered soaked in blood, presented a horrific scene of her final moments. “Her death at the hands of her husband was a tragic and brutal end to her life,” a DCI spokesperson stated.

The woman, described by locals as a mother, relative, and friend, leaves behind a grieving community struggling to make sense of the tragedy. This incident underscores the pervasive issue of domestic violence in Kenya, where patriarchal norms and socio-economic challenges often exacerbate tensions in relationships.

The DCI has vowed to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice. “Samuel Miriti is still evading authorities, but no effort or resource will be spared until he is brought to justice,” the agency declared. Authorities are urging anyone with information on Miriti’s whereabouts to come forward as the investigation continues.

This tragic case has reignited calls for stronger measures to address domestic violence in Kenya, with advocates pushing for better education, economic empowerment for women, and stricter enforcement of laws to protect vulnerable individuals.
